The Stoney Creek High School Student Council chose Neighborhood House as one of the benefactors for the school’s Charity Week this year! This means that RANH will be getting over 4,000 dollars from the events! The events that were included in Charity Week include a dodgeball and volleyball tournament, Jail n’ Bail, and a first hour fund raising competition! Students really rose to the occassion and did their best to raise money for the sponsored charities. Thanks for the support Stoney Creek!
The Stoney Creek High School Student Council adopted RANH for a bonding activity that they had planned at Pump It Up! The group of high school students made the Pump It Up party a sort of “birthday party” for RANH and brought toys to donate to the toy room at RANH’s Clothes Closet. Thanks for the donations, Stoney Creek Student Council!

Also, at the Youth Committee meeting in March members helped put together Easter baskets with candy and other items that the Youth Committee members donated. These baskets were given to clients of the Neighborhood House for their children!

A selection team at the Neighborhood House has been brainstorming ideas for the application process for choosing the next Youth Committee Chairperson. This is a job that is currently held by Megan, but when my term as Junior Ambassador is up, Megan will move from Youth Committee Chairperson to fill my position as Junior Ambassador. This will leave the position of Youth Committee Chairperson open.
The job of Youth Committee Chairperson is one that was created this year during the selection process for Junior Ambassador. This job essentially includes helping out the Junior Ambassador with running meetings, brainstorming projects, getting the word out about RANH, etc.
Please consider applying to become the next Youth Committee Chairperson! This position is very rewarding and can lead to other opportunities in the organization, as well as in the community. You establish great connections to community leaders and are truly able to make a difference at the Neighborhood House through leadership.
The applications are available in all area high schools, as well as below:

The Rochester Area Neighborhood House helped 230 families and 520 children this Christmas with gift assistance? We were able to serve everyone on our waiting list, as well!
The Neighborhood House helped many people this past holiday season, so thank you for your help in doing so!
Also, the date of the Rochester Hills Government Youth Council 5K Run has been set for June 18, 2011 in the late morning and early afternoon. The rest of Youth Council and I have been working on getting sponsorships for this event, and we are planning several fund raising events that will help generate more proceeds for the Neighborhood House. These events will be taking place over the course of the next few months, and I will keep you updated on the details as they are planned!
The next Youth Committee meeting is this week and there will be an article about the Junior Ambassador Program coming out in the Rochester Patch right after, so be on the lookout for that!
Hope everyone has a good week!
I hope everyone had a great holiday season! The Neighborhood House was able to help many people in our area through the Giving Tree and food baskets, along with other types of assistance.
The Youth Committee and myself are currently in the process of going through ideas for a Family Fun Event this spring. This event will benefit the Neighborhood House. More information about this event will be posted once the plans have been made! Feel free to let me know what type of event would you like to see happen at the Neighborhood House!
Also, the Rochester Hills Government Youth Council, along with myself, have decided to elect the Neighborhood House as our benefactor for our annual summer 5K run! Last year, this event raised almost $10,000 for the University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital in memory of Dillon Cope. This money went toward buying DVD’s and televisions for the patients to watch while in their hospital rooms. It is very exciting that the Neighborhood House will be receiving the proceeds from this run this year! More information about how to register to run in this event, as well as the date and time of the event will be posted soon!
Happy New Year and I hope you have a great start to 2011!
The Holiday Shopping Event was December 10th at St. Philip’s Church and went great. This year we helped provide gifts to about 250 Rochester Area families. These gifts were donated by businesses, organizations, schools, and individuals as a part of our Giving Tree program this year.
Thank you so much to everyone that helped out by volunteering, organizing, or donating. Thanks to you, we have helped make Christmas a little easier for many families.
The Rochester Patch also covered the organizing of this event in their online publication. To read the article and to see pictures, please click here: http://rochester.patch.com/articles/where-theres-a-giving-tree-theres-a-flurry-of-gift-sorting-volunteers
